不定詞パートIII

日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません

ここでは次の順序で不定詞の様々な用法を見て行きます。

  1. 形容詞として(As Adjective)
  2. 副詞として(As Adverb)
  3. too + 形容詞 + 不定詞(too + Adjective + Infinitive)
  4.(It + be + adjective + of + noun/pronoun + infinitive)
  5. be + 不定詞(Be + Infinitive)


1.形容詞として(As Adjective)
次は不定詞が名詞を修飾し形容詞となる場面です。

He has some problems to overcome.
彼は解決しなければならない幾つかの問題を抱えている。

She made two sandwiches to take for lunch.
彼女はランチのサンドイッチを2つ作った。

We examined the list of guests to invite to the wedding.
結婚式の招待客リストをチェックした。

He took a book to read while traveling on a train.
彼は列車旅行中に読む本を持参した。

She doesn’t have much time to relax before the next class.
彼女は次の授業までにゆっくるする時間は無い。

I have two dogs to take care of before dinner.
夕食前に2匹の犬の世話をしなければならない。

2.副詞として(As Adverb)
次は不定詞が動詞を修飾し副詞となる場面です。

He hopes to start college this fall.
彼は今年の夏大学に通い始められればな~と期待している。

She hesitated to tell me the truth.
彼女は真実を私に告げるのをためらった。

My friend quickly came to help fix the flat tire.
私の友達は早々と来てパンク修理を手伝ってくれた。

She called the police to report theft.
彼女は警察に電話して盗みを訴えた。

They hired a carpenter to fix the leaky roof. 彼らは大工を雇って雨漏りの屋根を直してもらった。

She went home early to care for her baby.
彼女は赤ちゃんの世話をする為早々と家に帰った。

3.too + 形容詞 + 不定詞:
次は何かが領域を超えている場面で使う、too + 形容詞 + 不定詞、の場面をみてみよう。

It’s too cold to swim.
寒すぎて泳げない。

The music is too loud to study.
音楽が大きすぎて勉強出来ない。

The car in front of us is too fast to catch up with.
前の車は早すぎて追いつけない。

My son was too young to drink alcohol.
息子は飲酒するには若すぎた。

They were too tired to keep running.
彼らは疲れすぎて走り続けることが出来なかった。

He was too proud to admit his mistakes.
プライドが高すぎて自分の間違いを認めなかった。

4. It + be + adjective + of/for + noun/pronoun + infinitive
前置詞of/for の目的語の後に不定詞がくる場面です。

It was kind of you to give me a ride home.
家まで送ってくれてありがとう。
(貴方が私を家まで送った事は親切な事である。)

It was foolish of me to believe his story.
愚かにも私は彼の話を信じてしまった。

It was generous of you to donate such a large sum of money.
そんな大金を寄付するなんて貴方は寛大な方です。

It’s impossible for the company to hire so many people.
そんなに多くの人を雇うのは会社にとって不可能です。
(会社がそんな多くの人を雇うのは出来ません。)

It’s an honor for us to share this moment with you.
この瞬間を皆さんと共有できる事は我々にとって光栄の事です。

It’s important for you to report the incident.
この事件を報告する事は貴方にとって大事な事である。

5. be + 不定詞:
次はbe + 不定詞が予定を表す例をみてみよう。

The plane is to leave at 8:30pm.
飛行機は8時半に出発することになっている。

The new store is to open next Monday.
新しい店は来週の月曜日にオープンすることになっている。

They are to discuss the business plan with the loan officer tomorrow.
彼らは明日銀行のローン係とビジネスプランについて話することになっている。

They were to get married the following month.
彼らは次の月に結婚することになっていた。

The plane was to depart from Narita at 10:00pm that evening.
飛行機はその夜10時に成田から出発することになっていた。

The Japanese team was to play the game against the Korean team.
日本チームは韓国チームとゲームをプレーすることになっていた。
