Adverb Phrase

副詞句とは主に動詞を修飾する語の集まりのことを指しますが動詞以外に形容詞、あるいは他の副詞を修飾したりもします。ここでは動詞を修飾する副詞句のみを見て行きます。
1. Adverb Phrase of Manner：
動作を表す副詞句：
He spoke so slowly.
彼はゆっくり話した。
She drove very carefully.
彼女は注意深く運転した。
She was yelling at her child very loudly.
彼女は大声で自分の子をどなり散らしていた。
He is recovering from the illness surprisingly well.
驚くほど順調に彼は病気から回復している。
After the hard work he slept like a baby until 7 in the morning.
きつい仕事の後彼は赤ちゃんのように朝の7時までぐっすり眠った。
Slowly but steadily he is making a progress toward his goal.
彼はゆっくりではあるが着実に目的に向かって歩んでいる。
2. Adverb Phrase of Place：
場所を表す副詞句：
Go around the corner then turn left.
角を回り左に曲がって下さい。
Keep going farther down the street until you see a big maple tree.
大きなもみじの木が見えるまでこの道をさらに真っすぐ行って下さい。
He parked the car right in front of the store.
彼は店のすぐ前に車を止めた。
I searched for the dog everywhere in my neighborhood.
私は近所の至る所で犬をさがした。
My cat was hiding down there under the tree.
私の猫はあそこの木の下に隠れていた。
The stolen item was found buried in the sand at the nearby beach.
盗まれたアイテムは近くのビーチの砂の中に埋められているのが見つかった。
3. Adverb Phrase of Reason：
原因や理由を表す副詞：
She went to the store to get some fruits.
彼女はフルーツを買う為に店に行った。
They left work early in order to attend friend’s wedding.
彼らは友人の結婚式に出る為仕事を早く切り上げた。
He turned up the thermostat in order to keep the room warm.
彼は部屋の暖かさをキープする為温度調整器を上げた。
She cleaned the house so as to prepare for the party.
彼女はパーティーの準備の為家を掃除した。
She missed three days of work because of pneumonia.
彼女は肺炎の為仕事を3日休んだ。
He was expelled from high school because of bad behavior.
彼は悪い振る舞いの為高校を退学させられた。
4. Adverb Phrase of Time：
時間や時を表す副詞句：
He had coffee with her yesterday afternoon.
彼は昨日の昼彼女とコーヒーした。
She came back after a few minutes.
彼女は数分後に戻って来た。
Once upon a time, an old man lived alone on an uninhabited island.
昔々老人が一人で無人島に住んでました。
She is leaving the day after tomorrow.
彼女はあさって出発します。
He will graduate from college next year.
彼は来年大学を卒業します。
We took turns cleaning each other’s house after the storm.
我々は悪天候/嵐のあと互いの家を交代でかたずけた。
5. Adverb Phrase of Frequency：
頻度を表す副詞句：
She went fishing almost every day.
彼女は殆ど毎日釣りにでかけた。
The man very rarely leaves his home.
男性は滅多に家を出る事はなかった。
She exercises twice a day.
彼女は一日２回運動する。
We go out to dinner once a week.
我々は週に一度外でディナーする。
She complains all the time.
彼女はしょっちゅう不満ばかり言っている。
The meeting was held every other week.
会合（ミーティング）は一週間おきに開かれていた。
