日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません
不定詞とは to+動詞の原形 のことでここでは不定詞が文の要素になる例文を次の順序で見て行きます。
1．主語として（As Subject）
2．主格補語として（As Subject Complement）
3．目的語として（As Object）
4．目的格補語として（As Object Complement）
1. 主語として（As Subject）：
まず主語としての用法を見てみよう。
To exercise regularly is good for your health.
規則正しく運動するのは健康に良い。
To see is to believe (Seeing is believing).
見ることは信じることである（百聞一見にしかず）。
To know oneself can be close to impossible for many people.
己を知る事は不可能に近いかもしれない。
To continue with the current policy may lead to bankruptcy.
今の政策を続けることは会社の倒産につながるかもしれない。
To be honest with every aspect of life may not be a good policy.
バカ正直でいると事（人生のすべてに正直でいる事）はあまり良い事ではないかもしれない。
To go home once a year during New Year season is what he looks forward to every year.
彼は正月時期に里帰りするのを毎年楽しみにしている。
2. 主格補語として（As Subject Complement）：
次は不定詞が主語を修飾し主格補語となる場合です。
One important thing in life is not to repeat the same mistakes.
人生で１つ大切なのは同じ失敗を繰り返さない事である。
One of the goals in his life is to build a large family.
彼の人生の１つの目的は大家族を作る事である。
Our hope was to take a cruise ship trip before the end of the year.
彼らの期待は年末までにクルーズ船の旅に出る事であった。
She appears to be very confident.
彼女は非常に自信があるように見える。
Their decision turned out to be what I expected.
彼らの決断は私の期待どうりだった。
My neighbor seems to have plenty of money.
私の隣人は金持ちのように見える。
3. 目的語として（As Object）:
次は不定詞が動詞の目的語になる場合です。
I forgot to call you.
電話するのを忘れた。
I hope to get married soon.
私はそろそろ結婚したい。
He offered to give us a ride to school.
彼は我々を学校まで送ってあげると申し出た。
We wanted to eat ice cream.
我々はアイスクリームが食べたかった。
I chose to live in Okinawa instead of the United States.
アメリカより沖縄に住むこと（を選んだ）にした。
He learned to drive on public roads.
彼は公道で走れる（運転出来る）ようになった。
4. 目的格補語として（As Object Complement）：
次は不定詞が目的語に意味を継ぎ足す（修飾する）場合です。
His parents expected him to excel in school.
彼の両親は彼が学校で良い成績でいる事を期待している。
I consider him to be my best friend.
彼は私の最高の友達であると思う。
I politely asked them not to make too much noise.
私は彼らにあまり音をたてないようにと丁寧に頼んだ。
He persuaded his friend not to argue with the boss anymore.
彼は友達に上司とこれ以上口論しないように説得した。
The teacher taught the blind man to read and write.
先生は目の見えない男性に読み書きを教えた。
The judge sentenced him to serve a five-year prison sentence.
裁判官は彼に５年の実刑を言い渡した。
