Reported Speech Part III

日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません。

ここでは過去進行形の変換例を幾つか見ていきます。時制変換ルールは下記のようになっていてcan/willcould/wouldになる事も示されてます。

時制変換ルール:直接話法の内容を間接話法で伝える場合、過去進行形は過去完了進行形に can は could に will は would に変換します。

1. Reported clause in the past continuous tense, shift to the past perfect continuous tense:
過去進行形は過去完了進行形にする:

He said, “It was raining yesterday
He said (that) it had been raining the previous day.
昨日は雨が降っていたと彼は言った。

He said, “I was walking along the road toward the intersection.”
He said (that) he had been walking along the road toward the intersection.
私は交差点に向かってその道沿いを歩いてましたと彼は言った。

She said, “I was wondering what to do”
She said (that) she had been wondering what to do.
どうしようかと思っていたと彼女は言った。

She said, “Your mother was looking for you.”
She said (that) my mother had been looking for me.
私の母が私を探していたと彼女は言った。

He asked me, “Were you watching TV when I called?
He asked me if I had been watching TV when he had called.
私が電話した時貴方はテレビ見ていたのと彼は私に尋ねた。

She asked me, “What were you doing last night?”
She asked me what I had been doing the previous night.
昨夜貴方はは何していたんですかと彼女は私に尋ねた。

2. Change “can” to “could”:
“can” は “could”に変換:

She said, “I can’t swim.”
She said (that) she couldn’t swim.
私は泳げませんと彼女は言った。

He asked me, “Can you give me a ride to work tomorrow?
He asked me if I could give him a ride to work the following day.
明日仕事場まで車で送ってくれませんかと彼は私に聞いた。

She said, “These trees can reach thirty feet by the next summer
She said (that) those trees could reach thirty feet by the following summer.
これらの木は来年夏までには30フィートに達するよと彼女は言った。

He said, “If you are really desperate, I can lend you the money.”
He said (that) if I was really desperate, he could lend me the money.
ほんとに切羽詰まっているなら金を貸してもいいよと彼は言った。

She asked, “Do you think your friend can take us to the airport tomorrow morning?
She asked if I thought my friend could take us to the airport the following morning.
貴方の友達は明日の朝、我々を空港まで送る事が出来ると思いますかと彼女は聞いた。

He said, “I can watch your children until your wife comes home.”
He said (that) he could watch my children until my wife came home.
貴方の奥さんが家に帰るまで子供たちを見る事が出来るよと彼は言った。

3. Change “will” to “would”:
“will” は “would” に変換:

She said, “I will pick you up at six o’clock next to the bus station.”
She said (that) she would pick me up at six o’clock next to the bus station.
6時にバス停の側で(貴方を)ピックアップするよと彼女は言った。

They said, “We will see you at the restaurant after the movie is over.”
They said (that) they would see me at the restaurant after the movie was over.
映画が終わった後レストランで会いましょうと彼らは言った。

He asked, “Will you lend me some money till tomorrow?
He asked if I would lend him some money till the following day.
明日までお金をいくらか貸してくれませんかと彼は(私に)尋ねた。

She said, “I will tell you about it tomorrow.
She said (that) she would tell me about it the following day.
明日言うね(貴方に明日言いますね)と彼女は言った。

He said, “My friend will be here to meet you tomorrow morning.
He said that his friend would be there to meet me the following morning.
私の友達は明日の朝、貴方に会いにここに来ます(ここに居ます)と彼は言った。

She said, “I will introduce you to my mother when you come to my birthday.”
She said (that) she would introduce me to her mother when I came to her birthday.
(貴方が)私の誕生日に来た時(貴方を私の)母に紹介しますと彼女は言った。
