日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません
名詞や代名詞そしてそれを修飾する語を含めた単語の集まりが名詞句となります。名詞や代名詞は前から修飾されたり後ろから修飾されたりあるいは両方から修飾されたりします。ここではそれぞれの例文を見て行きます。
1. Premodifier：
名詞の前から修飾する例：
My next neighbor is a wealthy old man.
私のすぐ側の隣人は金持ちの老人です。
I saw the poor child bitten by a brown pet poodle.
私はかわいそうな子供がペットプードルに嚙まれるのを見た。
The military police arrested him for trespassing on the restricted area.
ミリタリーポリスは立ち入り禁止区域侵入で彼を逮捕した。
I don’t like the hot and humid summer typical in Okinawa.
ジメジメした熱い代表的な沖縄の夏は好きではありません。
Drug problems are serious issues for the crime infested city.
薬物乱用は犯罪が横行する街にとって深刻な問題である。
My husband bought me a comfortable, big, yellow, fluffy pillow.
旦那さんは私に心地よい黄色い大きなフワフワした枕を買ってくれた。
2. Postmodifier：
名詞の後ろから修飾する例：
He started to argue with a lady living next door.
彼は隣人女性と口論し始めた。
He took out a loan to repair the house damaged by the typhoon.
彼は台風で被害を受けた家を修理する為ローンを組んだ。
The letter signed and dated by the accused became the decisive evidence in the courtroom.
被告人のサインと日付の入った手紙が法廷では決定的証拠となった。
The old man hired a lady to help clean the house.
その年配男性は家の掃除手伝いの為一人の女性を雇った。
She married a man twice her age with grey hair.
彼女は年齢差2倍の白髪の男性と結婚した。
The man standing over there with long beard is my teacher.
あそこに立っている長いあごひげの男性は私の先生です。
3. Pre-and-Post Modifiers：
名詞の前と後ろから修飾する例：
Do you know that young man standing in front of the store?
店の前に立っているあの若い男性を知ってますか？
The lady was crossing the street pushing a shopping cart full of groceries.
その女性は食料品で一杯になったショッピングカートを押しながら道を横切っていた。
The man rescued a malnourished sick baby cat abandoned in a trash bin.
彼はゴミ箱に捨てられていた栄養失調で病気の子猫を保護した。
His family moved in to the brand-new brownish house at the intersection.
彼の家族は交差点沿いにある茶色の新築の家に移った。
He fell in love with the tall, beautiful lady in his class.
