Introductory Phrase
日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません
導入句は文の前置きみたいなもので “本文が来る用意をする”、“本文が来る状態を整える”などの働きがあります。
1. Prepositional:
文頭にくる前置詞句で副詞の働きをします。
After paying substantial amount of tax, he recalculated allowable monthly spendings.
かなりの税金を払った後彼は月々の許された生活費を計算し直した。
Before diving deeper into the main topic, let me describe the background information first.
本題に深入りする前に背景情報を最初に説明致します。
During the middle of the typhoon, he saw a car flip and smash against the electric pole.
彼は台風の真っただ中車がひっくり返り電柱にぶち当たるのを見た。
Through the shinny glass window, I could see the distant Mt. Fuji with the sunset in the background.
キラキラしたガラス窓越しに夕焼けを背景にした遠くの富士山を見る事が出来た。
Underneath the blanket, I felt my cat sleeping snugly tucked in itself.
毛布の下で私の猫が気持ちよさそうに丸まって寝ているのを感じた。
In the backyard storage shed, I saw a racoon rummaging through boxes.

2. Participial:
現在分詞や過去分詞で導かれ本文の主語を修飾するフレーズです。
Worried about his dog, he went back home to check on it.
犬が心配で彼は家に戻ってチェックした。
Stuck in the heavy traffic, he became very frustrated.
交通渋滞に巻き込まれ彼は非常にいら立っていた。
Injured in the car accident, children were taken to the hospital.
車事故で怪我の為子供たちは病院に運ばれた。
Shouting loudly, the man was drunk and obnoxious.
大声で怒鳴り男性は酒に酔い不快であった。
Swimming in the ocean, she spotted a shark following behind her.
海で泳いでいる時彼女は後ろからついてくるサメに気付いた。
Showing up without notice, the landlord demanded overdue rent.
予告なしでいきなり現れた家主は未払いの家賃を要求した。
3. Infinitive:
不定詞に導かれ本文の主語を修飾するフレーズです。
To compete in an annual marathon race, she runs ten miles every day.
年一度のマラソン競技で競う為彼女は毎日10マイル走っている。
To prepare for the test, she stayed up until 4:00 am.
テストの準備で彼女は4時まで起きていた。
To take care of her ailing mother, she retired early.
病気の母を世話する為彼女は早く退職した。
To maintain health, he practices regular fasting.
健康維持の為彼は定期的に断食している。
To get a driver’s license, she has been practicing parallel parking.
運転免許を取る為彼女は並行駐車の練習をしている。
To get into Tokyo University, she studies five hours a day after school.
東大に入る為彼女は放課後毎日5時間勉強している。
4. Apositive：
主語を別の言い方で言い換える文頭のフレーズは apositive と呼ばれます。
A popular and well-respected teacher, Mr. Wilson was in a car accident last night.
評判が良く皆に尊敬されているミスターウイルソン先生は昨夜車事故に会った。
A Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Yamanaka teaches Cell Biology at Kyoto University.
