Location Preposition
日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません
前置詞の使い方にはっきりした定義はありません。“こんな時はこの前置詞がしっくりくる”とは言えますがなぜかと言う理由を詳細に述べる事は不可能でしょう。“長い間の慣習でそうなっている”と言った方が良いでしょう。
前回、位置の前置詞（Position Preposition）では位置や場所が狭い範囲の日常の例でした。多くの例を見てきましたがinとonは範囲がかなり広い位置や場所でも使われます。このセクションではinとonにもう一つatを付け加えそれらの例文を見ていきます。詳細な意味にこだわるのではなく多くの例文に触る事で感覚的に把握するのが良いでしょう。
1. At：
境界（はっきりした、あるいは漠然とした）のある比較的狭い位置や場所。
You’ll find her at her desk talking to a customer.
彼女は自分のデスクでお客さんと話してますよ。
I was standing at the bus stop when the accident occurred.
私は事故が起きた時バス停留所に立ってました。
She met her husband at the wedding of her friend.
彼女は友達の結婚式で旦那さんに出会いました。
I will be at home tonight after six o’clock.
私は今夜6時後は家に居ます。
My children will be at school untill 3 pm.
私の子供たちは3時まで学校です。
I need to be at the bank before they close.
私は閉まる前に銀行に居なければならない。
2. In:
境界（はっきりした）のあるスペースの中：
She forgot groceries in the car.
彼女は買い物を車に忘れた。
She is in the house watching TV.
彼女は家でテレビを見ています。
A baby suddenly started to cry in the theater.
映画館で突然赤ちゃんが泣きだした。
He is in the building looking for his children.
彼は建物の中で自分の子供を探してます。
The thunderclouds in the sky prompted us to look for shelter.
空の雷雨は避難所を探すよう我々を駆り立てた。
He grew up in Japan.
彼は日本で育った。
3. On:
一般的な場所あるは位置（位置の場合は平らな表面）。
He spilled coffee on the floor as he walked back to the office.
自分のオフィスに戻る際彼は床にコーヒーをこぼした。
He found the message in a plastic bottle on the lawn.
彼は芝生の上でペットボトルに入ったメッセージを見つけた。
I saw a child on the balcony and alerted the Security guard.
私はバルコニーで子供を見つけ警備員に知らせた。
Prayers were offered for those who perished on Mount Everest.
祈りはエベレストで犠牲になった人々に捧げられた。
We traveled two hours on the subway before reaching the destination.
我々は目的地に着く前2時間地下鉄で旅した。
The Mars probe Curiosity successfully landed on Mars in 2012.
