Direction Preposition
日本語は大まかな状況を表すだけで詳細な訳ではありません
ここでは方向を表す前置詞を見て行きます。
1. to, from：
to (～に向かって、～へ), from (～から)
I go to Australia in summer every year.
毎年夏はオーストラリアに行きます。
The family is headed to Hawaii for vacation.
家族は休暇の為ハワイに向かってます。
He is scheduled to travel to Chicago for conference.
彼は会議の為シカゴに行く事になっている。
Where did you come from?
何処から来られたんですか？
He is on his way here from his apartment.
彼はアパートからここに向かっているところです。
I can see Mount Fuji from the back of my house.
私の家の裏から富士山を見る事が出来ます。
2. across, around：
across (～を横切って), around (～を回って)
The two leaders sat across the table facing each other.
2人のリーダーはテーブル越しに対面して座った。
A steel bar was installed across the highway to prevent traffic from crossing over.
交通を止めるため鋼鉄棒がハイウェイを横切って設置された。
We drove across the desert in eight hours.
我々は8時間で運転して砂漠を横切った。
He embraced her by putting his arms around her.
彼は両腕を回し彼女を抱きしめた。
She looked for the cat around the neighborhood.
彼女は近所一帯で猫を探した。
We plan to take a cruise ship trip around the world next year.
私たちは来年クルーズ船で世界旅行を計画している。
3. toward, down：
toward (～の方向に), down (～から遠ざかって)
The dog ran toward the bushes chasing a squirrel.
犬はリスを追いかけて茂みの方向へ走って行った。
I saw her walking toward the beach with her dog.
私は彼女が犬と一緒にビーチの方向へ歩いているのを見た。
A car was approaching toward the house when the dog started to bark.
犬が吠えだした時車は家の方向に向かっていた。
I heard her coming down the stairs.
彼女が階段を下りてくるのが聞こえた。
He was seen running down the street after midnight.
彼は夜12時後道を走り去るのを見られていた。
Tears rolled down her cheeks as her daughter read the letter.
娘が手紙を読んでると涙が彼女の頬を流れた。
