Definite Article Part II
日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません。
定冠詞は名詞の前に付随し、聞き手がどの名詞かはっきりと分かる時に使われます。名詞が限定されていれば数えられる名詞、数えられない名詞に関係なく共に定冠詞が先行します。幾つかの用法を2つ（Part I and Part II）に分けてまとめてありここではPart IIを見て行きます。
1. Adjective describing the noun clarifies or restricts its identity:
形容詞によって名詞が特定されている：
Could you give me the key on the table?
テーブルのキーをください。
Thank you for the advice you gave me.
忠告ありがとうございます。
The car under the tree over there is mine.
あそこの木の下にあるのは私の車です。
This morning, I saw the lady whom I spoke to last night at the party.

2. Common knowledge: everyone knows.
一般常識：誰でもわかる。
We painted the roof over the weekend.
私たちは週末に屋根にペンキを塗った。
I had coffee with my girlfriend in the afternoon.
私は昼彼女とコーヒーしました。
She planted flowers in the garden.
彼女は庭に花を植えた。
It was the pilot’s decision to land the plane in the field.

I forgot my keys on the kitchen table.

3. All things referred to by a noun:
名詞が指す全てのもの：

4. Group of people:
国民、特定された人の集まり：

5. Countries with kingdom, states, republic, plural noun:
国の種類（kingdom, states, republic, plural noun）：
The United Kingdom, The United States, The Kingdom of Bhutan, The Republic of China, The Dominican Republic, The Netherlands, the Philippines.
6. Oceans, seas, rivers, deserts:
海洋、川、砂漠：
The Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, The Mediterranean Sea, The East China Sea, The Amazon River, The Mississippi River, The Sahara Desert, The Rocky Mountains, The Himalayan Mountains.
