Primary Helping Verb Do
日本語は状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません。
動詞が本助動詞を使わず本動詞だけで出来ている文を否定文、疑問文、付加疑問文にしたり動詞を強調したりするには助動詞のdoを挿入しなければなりません。ここではそれぞれの例文を見て行きます。
1. Negative: a negated helping verb don’t/doesn’t must precede the main verb.
否定：否定の助動詞don’t/doesn’t が本動詞の前にきます。
He doesn’t work for the company anymore.
彼はこの会社ではもう働いていません。
It doesn’t make sense why there is such a big discrepancy.
なぜそんな大きな誤差があるのか納得いかない。
She doesn’t understand why so many people disagree with her.
なぜそんなに多くの人々が賛成しないのか彼女には理解出来ない。
The reports do not support the rumor that the company went bankrupt.
そのレポートは会社が倒産したと言う噂を支持してない。
Although I don’t agree with you, I respect and support your decision.
貴方に同意しませんが貴方の決断を尊敬しサポートします。
I’m sure things will get better, so please don’t cry.
事が良くなるのは間違いないので泣かないで下さい。
2. Interrogative: insert do or does before the subject.
疑問文：主語の前にdoかdoesを挿入します。
Does it make any difference whether we invite them or not?
彼らを招待するか否かで何か違いますか？
I knowyou don’t smoke. Does my smoking bother you?
貴方がタバコを吸わない事は知ってます。私のタバコ気になりますか？
Do they know you are coming to see them this afternoon?
彼らは貴方が今日の午後尋ねて来るのを知ってますか？
Don’t you think she looks ten years younger than her age?
彼女は10歳若く見えないですか？
Doesn’t she know her husband has quit the job already?
旦那さんがすでに仕事を辞めた事を彼女は知らないんですか？
I heard he wants to marry her. Don’t they live together now?
彼は彼女と結婚したいと聞きました。2人は今一緒に住んでいるんではないんですか。
3. Tag questions:
負荷疑問：
He doesn’t speak Japanese, does he?
彼は日本語を話しませんよね？
She plays the piano, doesn’t she?
彼女はピアノを弾きますよね？
You don’t like the taste of alcohol, do you?
アルコールの味が好きじゃないんですよね？
They left the party early, didn’t they?
彼らはパーティーを早く出たんですよね？
You went to Okinawa Christian School, didn’t you?
貴方は沖縄クリスチャンスクールに行ったんですよね？
She did not call you last night, did she?
彼女は昨夜電話しなかったですよね？
4. Emphatic do: do or does come before the main verb for emphasis.
強調のdo：doかdoesが本動詞の前にきてそれを強調する。
He does clean his room at least once a week.
彼は少なくとも週一回部屋を掃除します。
I can’t speak Chinese at all, but I do speak a little Japanese.
中国語は全く話せませんが日本語は少し話します。
I know you may not agree with me, but she does work hard.
私と同意しないかも知れないが彼女は真面目に働きます。
Did you lock the door? Yes, I did lock the door when I left.
ドアをロックしましたか？はい、出る時にロックしました。
I did try to get hold of you at work, but you had already gone home.
仕事場で貴方に会おうとしたんですが、すでに家に帰ってました。
She did wait for you about an hour, but there were more than several people in line wanting to talk to you.
彼女は1時間ほど貴方を待っていたんですが、数人以上の人達が貴方と話したいと順番を待ってました。
