関係副詞

日本語は大まかな状況を説明しているだけで詳細な訳ではありません 。

関係節 で説明されているように英文には関係副詞と呼ばれる単語(when, where, why)で導かれる節が含まれる場合がありそれらの節は関係副詞節と呼ばれます。関係副詞の前には先行詞と呼ばれる名詞、代名詞、あるいは名詞句があり関係副詞節はそれらを修飾し形容詞の働きをします。


1. Relative adverb, where:
関係副詞、Where:

I will take you to the house.
I was born there.
I will take you to the house where I was born.
わたしが生まれた家に連れていくよ。

The church is near the gas station.
I used to go there every Sunday.
The church where I used to go every Sunday is near the gas station.
私が毎週日曜日に行っていた教会はガソリンスタンドの近くです。

That’s the coffee shop.
My wife and I met there for the first time.

そこのコーヒーショップが私と私の奥さんが出会った最初の場所です。

My girlfriend and I met at a restaurant on Kokusai Street.
She gave me a birthday present there.

2. adverb, when:
関係副詞 when:

I remember the day.
I met her that day.
I remember the day when I met her.
私は彼女と出会った日を覚えてます。

I look forward to Friday.
My wife and I go out to dinner on that day every week.
I look forward to Friday when my wife and I go out to dinner every week.
私は毎週奥さんとディナーに行く金曜日を楽しみにしてます。

She likes shopping between one and two in the afternoon.
Stores are not very busy then.
She likes shopping between one and two in the afternoon when stores are not very busy.
彼女はあまり客のいない午後1時と2時の間に買い物するのが好きです。

I like to do my homework after midnight.
Everybody is in bed sleeping then.

3. Relative adverb, why:
関係副詞 why:

There are many reasons.
People don’t get married.
There are many reasons why people don’t get married.
人々が結婚しない理由はたくさんあります。

Do you know the reason?
Shops are closed today.
Do you know the reason why shops are closed today?
今日店が閉まっている理由を知ってますか?

He told me the reason.
He quit the job in less than a year.
He told me the reason why he quit the job in less than a year.
彼はなぜ一年以内に仕事を辞めたのかを私に告げた。

Friends speculated on possible reasons.
The couple got divorce after more than thirty years of marriage.
Friends speculated on the possible reasons why the couple got divorced after more than thirty years of marriage.
